Raid 6 on life support until 2019: Why this Raid system is slowly being phased out

Mac Hard Drive Recovery
For now, many businesses are using Raid 6. But, Raid 6 may be not recommended after 2019.  This news may not come as a surprise since Raid 5 is no longer being supported by vendors and was stopped being made in 2009. Why are makers of Raid 6 systems planning to stop making them in 2019? Here are the reasons why Raid 6 may not be as useful as some UK businesses think this Raid system is and no Raid system is perfect. It doesn’t mean a business won’t need data recovery for a Mac or hard drive data recovery in the UK.

  • Raid 6 tackles the problem of not being able to operate with two failed drivers. The reason why Raid 6 can still operate is that it has enough parity to handle both driver failures. But, Raid 6 can still cause the problem of businesses losing a disk drive, still having unrecoverable read error rate and still having to reconstruct data. A trained professional may still have to perform Mac hard drive recovery and this may be costly depending on if a company charges a flat rate for hard drive data recovery in the UK or not.
  • Raid 6 has the increased storage space, using the parity it does. Still, Raid 5 can offer the same dual disk protection and still afford you the same amount of storage space. However, having dual parity may not be enough to protect business’s most important and sensitive data.
  • Raid 6 takes longer to rebuild a failed drive than other Raid systems. As disk capacity grows, rebuild time lengthen. Did you know that to write to a drive that is running 7,200 RPM averages 115 MB per second? It can mean that data recovery for a Mac can take five hours minimum to rebuild. Still, most Raid arrays cannot go top speed overall when rebuilding, so rebuild times are two to five times this.
  • Some business owners think a drive failure is a one-time instance. But usually if a drive fails, another failure is not far away. Combined with larger drives, longer rebuild times, and more latent errors, this can mean a Raid 6 system is more likely to fail and need a professional to perform hard drive data recovery in the UK

Have you ever had to call a professional to perform Mac hard drive recovery when a Raid 6 system suffered a problem?  We recover data from Raid systems, laptop hard drives, external hard drives, USB flash drives and more.
